This is a Hopi coiled basket. The image is the Ha Hai Whuti "The Grandmother" katsina. The Hopi women make these baskets with dyed yucca.These baskets typicaly have an intricate design weaved into them. The coiled plaques are given as gifts to the grooms family in Hopi wedding ceremonies and women’s ceremonial dances, and are given away at the Bean Dance to children. Representational imagery are woven into these plaques. The have symbolic significance, conveying important cultural values and beliefs. THE DOLL IS SOLD SEPERATELY.
