Spikenard (Aralia racemosa) has traditionally been used as a respiratory remedy and tonic. It has been said to have immune stimulating, anti-microbial and expectorant properties. This indicates that it may be useful during the first stages of cold or flu, to boost immune function and relieve symptoms. It also may be helpful to relieve coughing, deepen respiration, and ease asthma.
